- Defining characteristics of the singing voice
- Rethinking therapeutic approaches and optimizing vocal performance
- Engaging with the conventions of the singing voice or exploring one's individual vocal potential
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The objective of the course is to enable students to:
- Understand medical diagnoses specific to patients from the artistic domain.
- Assess the vocal condition of the artist.
- Refine their auditory perception in order to identify and interpret characteristics specific to the sung voice.
- Develop an appropriate therapeutic plan.
- Engage in a critical discussion around the question: Are we prepared to provide vocal support to trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse individuals?*

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is based on an interactive and progressive approach designed to foster the acquisition of the targeted competencies. Theoretical content is presented through structured visual materials (PowerPoint presentations), which serve to anchor the key concepts.
Ongoing dialogue with the audience is encouraged in order to stimulate critical thinking, deepen understanding, and draw on students' prior experiences.
Specific auditory training is provided through practical exercises aimed at developing listening skills and refining the perception of vocal characteristics.
Finally, practical application is ensured through exchanges with students from the Royal Conservatory of Liège, offering a direct experience of the artistic environment and facilitating the transfer of theoretical knowledge to professional contexts.
