Learning unit contents
This English course aims primarily to review basic grammatical structures, which are essential for good comprehension and effective language production. However, this course does not merely consist of mechanical practice: it also seeks to raise students' awareness of grammatical usage as it appears in real academic contexts, particularly through the analysis of excerpts from scientific articles in the field of educational sciences.
Students will be encouraged to identify and understand recurring grammatical paradigms in scientific literature in education (for example: the use of the passive voice in the presentation of results, the use of verb tenses in structuring scientific discourse, or the use of nominalizations to express abstract concepts). This approach will help them recognize that grammar is not neutral, but rather contributes to the construction of scientific discourse and the highlighting of ideas.
Rather than approaching grammar solely as a set of decontextualized rules, students will be encouraged to analyze how the same structure can produce different effects of meaning depending on the context. For instance: comparing the impact of active and passive formulations in an article, or understanding how the use of the conditional modifies the interpretation of results in a scientific discussion.
