Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The objectives of the course are to teach students how to draw from observation in situ and to understand the principles and challenges of observed perspective.
The aim is to learn how to prioritise, on site, the information to be conveyed in order to accurately describe the space (proportions, scales, organisation of the place so as not to mislead the viewer of the drawing) and to use the appropriate representation tools to produce renderings that sensitively convey the places.
Understanding the general context of drawing conventions.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Ability to quickly (in about an hour) produce a drawing in situ representing an urban or rural space, including the built environment and vegetation.
Ability to control lines and conventions.
Ability to construct a perspective of observation, horizon line, vanishing points, etc.
Ability to represent the built environment (proportions, hierarchies, etc.).
Ability to represent vegetation (drawing trees, etc.)
Ability to integrate characters and understand scales.
Ability to render (shadows and light), possibly in colour, to convey the location in a sensitive manner (quality of light, materials, climatic atmospheres, etc.).

Continuous assessment

Further information:

The course is assessed on a continuous basis. All work completed during the course is recorded in an A4 notebook, which will be handed in at the end of the semester and whose mark will constitute the first session mark. Only one justified absence per term will be taken into account in the assessment; other absences will be considered a lack of commitment to learning and will therefore be penalised by the teacher if the learning objectives are not achieved.

Criteria:

Commitment to learning and care (please note that simply attending the course is not a guarantee of success).
Mastery of learning outcomes:

Ability to quickly (in about one hour) produce a drawing in situ representing an urban or rural space, with built and natural elements.

Ability to master line work and conventions.

Ability to construct a perspective of observation, horizon line, vanishing points, etc.

Ability to represent the built environment (proportions, hierarchies, etc.).

Ability to represent vegetation (drawing trees, etc.).

Ability to integrate characters and understand scale.

Ability to render (shadows and light), possibly in colour.

The second session (May-June) will consist of work (self-taught learning) equivalent to the course (30%) and an examination (70%) and will be assessed according to the same criteria.
