Learning unit contents

Internship within a professional organization. The term organization refers to the broad spectrum of professional environments in which graduates of the Master's degree in Landscape Architecture may pursue their professional activities, excluding higher education.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The internship is primarily intended to prepare the student for the practice of their future profession. It provides an opportunity to put into practice the knowledge and skills acquired during the training program and aims to:

  • encourage the implementation and application of the techniques and knowledge developed throughout the program

  • strengthen the sense of responsibility and initiative

  • develop organizational and work-planning skills

  • promote integration within multidisciplinary teams.

The student is required to select an internship consistent with the training of a landscape architect. The choice of the internship placement must be approved by the coordinator of the internship committee. Any choice deemed irrelevant may be refused.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

During his internship, the student will valorize, apply and integrate all courses and previous trainings.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Professional immersion internship.

The student completes an internship with a minimum duration of 12 weeks, which results in the writing and presentation of an internship report. The activities vary according to the specific objectives set and the context of the internship (for example, the type of professional environment).

Written report:40%. Oral presentation: 40%. Evaluation by the local advisor/coordinator of the internship: 20%.

An average grade is established based on the evaluations of the internship committee members, taking into account various criteria. This initial grade serves as the starting point for a discussion among the committee members, who then determine the final grade by considering both the calculated average and the qualitative elements of the evaluation. The grade awarded is therefore not merely an arithmetic average but a consensus grade, positioning the student in relation to the entire cohort and correcting any potential over- or under-evaluations of certain aspects of the work.

Students which obtain 9/20 will have to improve their report for the next examen session. Students which obtain 8/20 or less will have to effectuate a new internship.

Work placement(s)

Yes.

Organisational remarks and main changes to the course

All practical aspects of the internship (rules and obligations, duration, evaluation, financial aspects, insurance, start of the training, etc.) will be explained in details during a special session organised by the principal advisor.

Documents will be available online on the intranet.
