Learning unit contents
This seminar is organised into several chronological and thematic sections, the subjects of which change each year. In M1, each student is free to follow a section of their choice, which counts as Research Seminar I. In M2, they follow another section as part of Research Seminar II. Students are also required to choose at least one of their seminars to suit the problem and/or the period of their TFE, if necessary in consultation with their promoter. For this reason, students are encouraged to plan their cycle from M1 onwards.

These topics will be presented during the Master's welcome meeting (22 September at 10 a.m.).
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Whichever aspect is chosen, this seminar is designed to introduce students in the in-depth Master's programme in History to the scientific environment. They will have the opportunity to confront current research questions and practices in the field by attending or even participating in various scientific activities and by producing a critical essay themselves.

The theoretical knowledge acquired and the practical skills practised during the first cycle are assumed to have been acquired.

Learning activities may include :
- Introductory theoretical sessions
- Debates with guest specialists
- Active participation in various scientific events (conferences, study days, symposia, etc.)
- Reading of scientific articles (in French and other languages)
- Educational excursions

This Research Seminar (5 ECTS) will be assessed on the basis of a written essay (max. 10 p. + any appendices), which may or may not be discussed orally, depending on the decision of the professor in charge of the Research Seminar.
Through this work, the student will demonstrate that he/she is capable of proposing a short critical essay related to the course theme, the fruit of personal reflection, which will be enriched by the sources and/or works commented on during the seminar, as well as any excursions and/or lectures proposed.
Active participation in the seminar sessions may be particularly valued and may be included in the final mark.
Use of AI:
All academic writing must be original and personal work. At the end of your work, you must ensure that it is not the product of any artificial intelligence software and declare any use of such tools for language improvement purposes (i.e. exclusively spelling and grammar correction; translation). You will be required to demonstrate your command of your own writing in an oral assessment. Any false or incomplete declaration will be considered fraud and punished as such.
