At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
- Develop a structured approach to biodiversity and conservation issues, mastering the relevant concepts and vocabulary.
- Explain the elements of an ecological system that are threatened by global changes and the different types of threats.
- Define the ecological challenges of a project within the framework of biodiversity protection, and identify the strengths and weaknesses of existing management methods.
- Explain the existing legal tools for implementing the sustainable management of species and natural or semi-natural environments.
- Develop a critical reflection on the impacts of environmental changes and on strategies for the sustainable management of ecosystems.

The set of lectures, slides, and seminars constitutes the material on which the student may be examined. Students are advised to take notes during classes.
The slides are made available via the eCampus platform, along with various documents that allow for a deeper understanding of certain topics. This does not preclude additional information from being provided during the lectures.
The materials may be modified during the academic year, but the final version must be available online no later than six weeks before the corresponding evaluation.

The examination is oral, with written preparation.
Attention: during the exam no multimedia device is allowed. Using such a device can be considered as cheating and lead to a malus.

Seminars will be organized according to scheduling constraints and opportunities (presence of Belgian or foreign speakers, conferences, etc.). Thus, some seminars may take place outside the course program defined a priori.
