Learning unit contents

This test aims to certify students' level of proficiency in English in the areas of grammar, general and specialized vocabulary, listening comprehension, and reading comprehension.

At the end of the exam, students must achieve a result at least equivalent to the B1+ proficiency level as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference, with the addition of technical vocabulary specific to architecture.

If this level is not reached, the Faculty will require you to select the course ARCH0605 "English for Architects - B1+ Objective" as an elective class in your Master's programme.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The targeted skills include mastery of grammar, reading, and listening comprehension at the B1+ level as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference, with the addition of technical vocabulary specific to architecture.

The B1+ level describes the proficiency of an independent user in a context of simple yet comfortable communication for all parties involved. Regarding specialized vocabulary, the Faculty has compiled a glossary of architecture-specific terms that are considered part of the expected knowledge base for Architecture graduates at ULiège.

The grammar and vocabulary elements associated with the test are listed on its eCampus page and must be studied through self-learning.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

The test is accessible to and mandatory for all bachelor's students in the Faculty of Architecture.

If you already hold an official equivalent certificate of mastery, please forward it to sebastien.schoenmaeckers@uliege.be  by 31/11/25 and wait for confirmation of receipt. If the certificate exempts you from the ARCH1016 test, your Faculty will be notified.

Students who require additional support are encouraged to explore alternative options. For more information about the resources offered by ULiège, please visit the portal: https://www.islv.uliege.be/cms/c_10332480/fr/institut-superieur-des-langues-vivantes
