Learning unit contents
This course focuses on the origins and current variations of theoretical, epistemological and methodological issues that have permeated the discipline since the 'postmodern turn'. Drawing on fundamental texts and the controversies surrounding them, case studies, and film and media materials, the course will examine and problematise the cultural phenomena, approaches and concepts that fuel current anthropological thinking. Particular emphasis will be placed on issues relating to cultural circulation (notably certain artistic practices, values, political movements, everyday objects and museum pieces) and social change (in terms of power relations, negotiations and identity), as well as the implications of these issues for anthropological research. On this basis, themes will be chosen and worked on with the students.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Students will be able to identify a controversy, master key concepts used in anthropological literature, approach a controversy from a critical perspective, analyse it as a subject in anthropology problematised in the light of diverse sources, and present it orally and in writing.
