Learning unit contents

This course aims at learning and practising the skills that will allow the students to build their methodological approach and to develop all the stages of their research in anthropology based on ethnographic examples, texts and exercises.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The students will have a broader understanding of the different stages and components of anthropological research: from adopting a reflective stance to the immersive approach, from the construction of the subject in the field to developing a research question, from ethnographic description to documented and argued writing. They will be introduced to the requirements of participant observation and various methodological tools.

Final evaluation: 60%.
Evaluation criteria :
- Translation of the initial question into an anthropological problematic and reflection. The transition from the initial question to the question in anthropological terms must be clear, as must the notions or theoretical propositions used; - Methodology: clarity and relevance of the presentation and references used; - Exploration of the research question; - Transfer of acquired knowledge and skills (lectures, presentations, 3 texts from the two courses); - Use of bibliographical references on the theme (at least 2 relevant anthropological references not included in the course materials).
