Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Learning unit contents
This course allows students to clarify their professional posture by addressing one of the essential pillars of evidence-based practice (EBP): the patient's unique values and circumstances.
This course is complementary to the "Professional Development of the Speech Therapist: Approach" organised in Block 1 of the Speech Therapy Orientation, which addresses the profession from a professional perspective.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
By the end of this course, students will have understood :
- what the terms "patient preferences", "values" and "self-determination" mean (and do not mean)
- the patient-partner models, the value of this approach and the barriers to patient partnership
- shared decision-making processes and current knowledge in speech therapy.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Module 1 of the MOOC "EBP at the service of the patient" on the FUN platform
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Resources (scientific articles, modules 2 and 3 of the MOOC "EBP in the service of the patient") on patient's preferences and values, patient-partnership and shared decision making will be provided to the students. In groups, students will focus on one skill and will lead a course session by: (a) starting with a presentation of this skills, (b) then setting and integrative quiz and (c) closing the session with a "take home message" type summary.
The students will also be offered role-playing situations from real-life speech therapy practice to give concrete expression to the concepts seen in theory and to better understand their nuances.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Face-to-face course

Exam(s) in session

Additional information:
The final grade is based on both the course facilitation and the written exam. It is necessary to obtain at least 10/20 in each part (course facilitation + written exam) to obtain a pass mark. In this case, the final grade = 50% course presentation, 50% written exam.
In case of failure in one of the parts, the final mark = the deficient mark.
In the second session, the student will have to repeat the deficient part.
Remark regarding the course sessions to be led in groups: In the event of absence from the session led by the group, the student in question will have four points deducted from their final grade.
