Learning unit contents
The course, organized as a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) offers an introduction to international cooperation and humanitarian aid:
- by distinguishing the actors, the forms of aid and the channels of delivery of aid in order to allow students to clearly identify the contours of these sectors of activity;
- by presenting various ongoing debates on the functioning of the international aid industry (why do we help? how much aid should we provide and for how long? who to help first? by what means? etc.) );
- by situating the place of international aid in relation to certain global issues: food, health, gender relations, international migration, the environment, etc.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the main actors of international aid (development aid and humanitarian aid) and situate them in relation to the main channels of aid delivery;
- Define the challenges and limits of contemporary aid;
- List a set of current issues in different fields of intervention (migration, environment, health, food, demography, gender...) and understand their dimensions;
