Learning unit contents
The seminar aims to:
- provide students with occasional support on the organisational and practical aspects of their internship and their final thesis/work,
- provide an informational resource for the completion of their internship* and final thesis/work,
- provide technical and methodological support for the completion of their internship and final thesis/work,
- recall the main stages of social science research according to the needs and the expectations of the students,
- confront students with research in the social sciences by making them tutors for a group of Master 1 students following the "Research support seminar" (SEMI0731-A-a). They will be required, in groups, to supervise them in the completion of a research project throughout the academic year. Note: Tutoring is compulsory for students of the Master 2 in Human Resources Management (HRM) and is optional for students of the Master 2 in LS 120 ECTS and the Master LS 60 ECTS.
*Note: Students enrolled in the Master in Labour Sciences 60 ECTS (ST 60 ECTS) will only do an internship if they are not pursuing a regular professional activity.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of this seminar, students will have received the tools and advice to:
- organise their academic year by conducting, in addition to their courses and assignments, an internship (or a professional activity for students in M LS 60 ECTS) and a final thesis/work,
- respect the FaSS deadlines (see the timetable on the "Regulations and Forms" page of the faculty website: fass.uliege.be/reglements),
- structure and write their thesis/final work and their internship report,
- organise the submission of their final thesis/work and its defense.

Additional information:
The assessment is intended for HRM students, for whom participation in the seminar and tutoring is compulsory. However, although no marks will be awarded, LS 120 ECTS and LS 60 ECTS students who choose to join the tutoring at the beginning of the academic year will also have to commit themselves to participate in the assessment.
The assessment is based on a reflective note to be completed by each group (one per group) on the tutoring experience during the seminar. Students will be asked to:
- Briefly present the work of the tutored group (starting question, research object, methods used, hypotheses, analysis framework, modes of interpretation and inference,
- Explain, for each module, the greatest difficulty encountered, and the solution found,
- Take a critical and/or reflective look at the work of providing support during the tutoring and to draw up an assessment of this experience on the contribution of the tutoring to their own research work which the final thesis/work represents.
The work is to be handed in by the spokesperson of the tutoring group via Ultra and the homework tool by the first day of the session.
The evaluation and submission procedures are identical for the first and the second sessions.
