Course topics:

  • Media and communication
  • Media education
  • Integration of media in teaching and training (gamification, pedagogical use of video) 
  • Legal aspects of the use of digital tools in education
The course deals with media education, especially in relation with training and learning.

Based on researches, it deals with different topics about media impact in several domains (e.g. communication, learning, private life, dangers of the web, citizenship...).

Links are made with educational programs.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The course aims at developing the learner's media literacy:


  • Define the concepts of media and media literacy
  • Distinguish media education and education supported by media
  • Analyse educational programs or documents (research papers or reports) related to educational media
  • Build and implement an activity to develop AME skills
  • Take a critical scientific look at the implementation of media education activities
  • Respect legal aspects of the use of ICT and media
  • Identify the pedagogical purpose related to the use of a video

  • Teacher's and experts' lectures (debates)
  • Collaborative work: case study on the legal aspects of the use of ICT and media
  • Collaborative work : creation and implementation of a pedagogical activity aiming at developping one media education competence
  • Use of different services of documents edition, communication and sharing
  • Use of the eCampus platform to communicate and share information with the professor and peers
  • Concrete learning and communication distance activities (f.i. through the use of a distance learning platform)

The course will be mostly face-to-face, but one or the other course sequence will take place online.

Additional information:

The students, in groups, will have to construct a teaching-learning activity aiming to develop, at least, one skill related to media literacy. This activity, accompanied by a pre-test and post-test, will have to be tested in a real situation in order to provide reflective feedback, both from a pedagogical and scientific point of view, on its implementation. The exam will consist of an oral presentation of the constructed activity and its analysis. 
In addition, the students, in groups, will have to analyze a concrete case with regard to the legal aspects of the use of digital technology in education discovered in the course. A written work will have to be sent to the professor.

Validation requests the submission of the both parts.

This course take place every other year, odd-numbered years (2019-2020, 2021-2022, 2023-2024...).
Most part of the course will take place in class but some hours will be released for home work.
