Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
This course provides the necessary fundamentals for data collection in the environment, so as to be able to build an instrumentation plan.
The concepts of metrology, error calculations and sampling are addressed through different practical cases (water, soil, air, fauna, flora,..).
Section 1: Sampling in the environment
- Sampling question
- Theoretical fundamentals: statistical elements, different sampling plans, sampling error, replicats, etc. Sampling vocabulary
- Declination of sampling projects in space and time
- Metrological parameters
- Measurement uncertainties
- Definition of the problem and objectives
- Choice of variables to measure
- Choice of measurement methods and instruments
Section 4: Environmental Indicators
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
be able to:
- design a methodology for environmental sampling and measurement
- understand and interpret metrological terms (e.g. LOD, systematic error, accuracy, linearity)
- interpret data representations
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
fundamental of statistics
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
