This course is complementary to the "Professional Development of the Speech Therapist: Approach" organised in Block 1 of the Speech Therapy Orientation, which addresses the profession from the perspective of pathologies.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
By the end of this course, students will be able to explain the nine skills of a Belgian speech therapist, illustrate these nine skills in relation to a pathology, and communicate this information in a clear, critical manner appropriate to the target audience.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Articles on the nine skills of a Belgian speech therapist, in one field of pathology (= theme of the European Speech Therapy Day), will be provided to students. In 2022, the theme will be "Speech and language therapy across lifespan".
In groups, students will focus on one skill and will lead a course session by: (a) starting with a presentation of this skills, (b) then setting and integrative quiz and (c) closing the session with a "take home message" type summary.

Additional information:
The course assessment is based on the creation (in groups) of a ten-minute video illustrating the nine skills of a Belgian speech therapist in keeping with the theme of the European Speech Therapy Day. In 2022, the theme will be "Speech and language therapy across lifespan".
The criteria for grading the portfolio will be set out during the first session.
Remarks regarding the use of French in the video: Because excellent command of French is essential for a aFrench-speaking speech therapist, four points will be deducted from the final grade of all members of the group if the video contains more than three spelling, lexical or grammatical errors in writing, or more than three grammar errors in the oral presentation.
Remark regarding the course sessions to be led in groups: In the event of absence from the session led by the group, the student in question will have four points deducted from their final grade.
