Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The seminar will aim to approach the ethical dilemmas regularly faced by concrete workers (lawyers, postmen, nurses, doctors, researchers, etc.). It will also aim to put into perspective some controversies (AI and ethics, conflicts of interest, ethics in research, etc.), some tools for managing ethical risks (norms and standards, regulations, labels, certificates, etc.) and some practices for dealing with these problems at intra-, inter- and extra-organisational levels.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The seminar aims to stimulate students' capacity to develop reflective and critical thinking towards ethical issues related to risk management and governance. Students are also asked to address the topic of ethics and risks in a scientific manner, through the realisation of a collective working paper, an oral, cross-groups discussion of their work, and the writing of a concluding ethnographic report. Consequently, at the end of the seminar, students should be able to: - Understand ethical challenges underlying risk management and governance; - Build a research question around a problematized research object; - Identify and mobilize relevant scientific literature on a research object; - Adopt an analytical and grounded perspective throughout their work; - Incorporate the theoretical elements from the course within a collective working paper; - Discuss other research papers from their peers; - Conduct critical reviews of papers related to technological change
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
social science research methods
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The teaching method will be based on an empirical approach leading the students to write a case study. This case study will focus on different aspects (ethical dilemmas, types of risks, types of resources, etc.) of ethical risks occurring in different professions (lawyers, researchers, doctors, etc.) and/or in different sectors (industrial, scientific, postal, agriculture, police, distribution, logistics, etc.).
