Learning unit contents

The course is an introduction to the history of medieval philosophy dealing with three major notions(The universal, the intellect and the image) connected with issues in contemporary philosophy, and based on a selections of texts. The cours would like to show what makes imedieval philosophy so specific, in its ways of philosophizing and in its links to our philosophical present.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

To introduce students to issues and methods that make up the specificity of Medieval Philosophy.

Each part of the course will be devoted to a question (Does the universal exist? Is the intellect one? How to represent the invisible?) that will give rise to a presentation of theoretical problems and solutions, but also, and inseparably, to the reading and the commentary of a set of founding texts.

3-hour writing examination including 2 questions on the course itself and 1 explanation of a short text taken from texts studied during the class.
