This course is organized around units related to everyday life :






  • touching topics such introducing oneself, talking about family, describing oneself and others, describing a typical day/week, situating and describing objects,... 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

To acquire a good basic command of Dutch and the essential structures of the Dutch language.
This course aims at developing the four language skills: listening and reading comprehension, oral and written expression.

This course contributes to the learning outcomes II.1, II.2, V.1, V.2, VI.1, VI.2, VI.3, VII.1, VII.2, VII.3, VII.4, VII.5, VII.6 of the MSc in computer science and engineering.

 

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

There are no prerequisites.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Learning ativities such as:







  • roleplaying
  • conversation and discussion exercises
  • reading and understanding of texts
  • listening comprehension of audio and video documents
  • vocabulary assimilation
  • grammar drills
  • writing short and simple texts
 

At home:




  • Different exercises to prepare (articles, videos, grammar exercises...)
  • Permanent evaluation: 1 test + 1 written expression / semester

Additional information:

Face-to-face classes (30 hours during 1 semester (february - may))

2 hours / week: attending the class is higly recommanded.

(Depending on the sanitary context, we might have to move our classes online because of the COVID-19 pandemic. We might therefore transition to a mix of in-person, hybrid, and online classes).

Additional information:

  • Exam in June:
Written exam consisting of vocabulary (of all units + Basiswoordenschat) and grammar, a listening test, a reading test and a written expression







  • Evaluation during the semester (permanent evaluation):
 

1 test: vocabulary of the units + 'Basiswoordenschat' + grammar 

1 written expression about a theme related to the units seen in class



 

  • Second session:

Students have to take all the parts of the evaluation they failed

 

  • Division of the global mark
 

Examen écrit de juin : 13/20

- Code : 6 pts

- CA : 3 pts

- CL : 2 pts

- EE : 2 pts

 

Evaluation permanente : 7/20

- Test : 4pts

- EE : 3 pts

 

If a student is absent on the day of a test or a written expression for the permanent evaluation of the course, they will be allowed to take it later only of they send a medical attest justifying the absence in the course of the following week.

If a student gets a '0' or an 'A' (absence) for any exam, his final mark will automatically be '0' or 'A'. 

Every grade between 9,5 and 9,99 out of 20 will automatically be rounded down to 9/20 for the first as well as the second session.
