Learning unit contents

We are living in a world which is becoming more and more digital. Information Technology (IT) is fundamental for companies to become digital. It offers competitive advantage for companies. It allows companies to better manage their business, to better serve their customers and to stay in competition. Possessing IT skills is necessary for manager in today business environment. This part of the course has the following objectives:


  • The Introductory to management information systems, Internet, Web, etc.;
  • The basic concepts of algorithms for solving problems related to management;
  • The basic concepts of programming language;
  • The development of web application (HTML, CSS, PHP and MySQL);
  • The Excel part is composed of: basic usage, address, functions, graphs, and data analysis
  • The development of the project which is related to management.
 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

After this course, students will have developed different knowledge and skills:




  • have acquired the fundamental concepts of Information Systems;
  • have acquired the basics of algorithmics and be able to analyze and model problems related to management;
  • have acquired the basics of programming and web programming (HTML, CSS, PHP, and MySQL) in particular.
  • have aquired fundamental knowledge of Excel allowing students to use appropriate tools for particular needs and provide optimal solution for a particular problems. 

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Usage of a computer and standard software (operating system, mailing software, browser, office suite). These prerequisites are taught in mandatory course INFO2043-1 "Mastering IT tools".

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

  • The theoretical part (Information System) is given in in ex-cathedral lecture.
  • Practical sessions (3 hours) in computer rooms are organized (small groups) every week to help students in learning programming language.
  • Students are invited to form groups that are composed of 4 students for the development of a project. It is scored.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

  • The introductory to management information systems, Internet, Web and algorithms are given in ex-cathedral lecture.
  • The programming part is given in the computer room (3 hours per week).
  • Additional videos and resources are available on the LOL@ platform.
  • Follow up sessions are offered to students who have difficulty in the development of the project.

  • Individual work: 5%
  • Final Exam: 50%
