Learning unit contents

The "complement of nutrition of companion animals" aim to give theoretical (8h) et practical knowledge (seminar and practical work) to balance complete diets for dogs and cats.
 
The lectures include :
-introduction, feeding during the cycle of life (growth, maintenance, reproduction, ageing) as well as feeding the owerweight/obese dog or cat
Practical work includes :
-commercial diets on the market (also specific purpose foods used in clinical nutrition) : labelling, comparisons between different foods
-unconventional foods : organic, BARF, vega, no grain, ...
-legal aspects of companion animal nutrition
-simplified formulation of homemade diets
-exercises : calculating a balance diet (clinical cases, dogs and cats)
 
The objective is to train students to use the resources (tables, compendium, ..). The exam will contain not only questions about knowledges but also practical questions (examples : calculating a daily diet for a cat, choosing in the compendium the best diet for an overweight dog, compare different products, ....)

To understand feeding practices and nutrition of dogs and cats

To calculate a basic diet (cycle of life) and make a diet plan 
To criticize petfood, for cat or dog
