Linguistics I
This course has two main objectives: on a theoretical level, it aims at analysing some syntactic constructions that are particularly problematic for French-speaking learners of Dutch; on a practical level, its aim is to further develop the communication skills (both receptive and productive skills) of the students in Dutch.
In the theoretical part, we will tackle some syntactic constructions that are particularly problematic for French-speaking learners of Dutch, including er, pronominal adverbs and passive constructions..
In the practical part, we will train the communicative skills of the students by organizing the following activities:
- reading and listening comprehension exercises;
- essay-writing;
- the composition of a portfolio.
Dutch language practice II
The course aims to develop students' understanding of reading and written expression in Dutch through practical exercises. Specific difficulties and several grammatical issues will be addressed on request. Students are also encouraged to improve the readability of their written work by avoiding awkward styles and to express themselves in clear, correct language. Given the practical nature of the course, regular and active participation from students is essential.

Linguistics I
At the end of this course, the students will be able:
- to describe and explain how word the syntactic constructions we discussed work in Dutch;
- to analyze these constructions in an original article;
- to write a coherent essay on a general topic (B2 level)
- to understand specialized texts (B2+ level)
- to follow a natural conversation in Dutch (B2 level)
Dutch language practice II
By the end of the course, students will have reached level B2 of the European Framework on reading and written expression in Dutch, as set out by the Taalunie.

Linguistics I
There are no formal prerequisites for this course. However, having earned the credits for Dutch Language Proficiency I (LGER0009-1 ) is definitely an asset.
Dutch language practice II
Have level B1 in the European Framework (writing, reading, oral expression and aural comprehension) in Dutch.

Linguistics I
The course includes formal lectures which will be as interactive as possible on the one hand and practical sessions on the other.
Additional practical sessions will be organized weekly for the students who should improve their oral proficiency skills (responsible teacher: Marie Jadot)
Dutch language practice II
- use of conjunctions to structure an essay + exercises
- exercises in rewriting phrases with a view to improving the style, grammar and vocabulary
- specific difficulties in Dutch, grammar + exercises (on request)
- reading exercises: reading all sorts of texts
- writing exercises: rewriting phrases, drafting summaries, arguments, book reviews, producing clear, coherent and correct texts in Dutch level B2 in the European Framework
- increased vocabulary
- use of reference tools (Van Dale, taaladvies.net, woordenlijst.org, etc.)
- e-tandem project

Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
The final mark of the UE will be calculated as follows:
- Linguistique néerlandaise 1: 50% of the final mark
- Pratique de la langue néerlandaise 2: 50% of the final mark.
Linguistics I
The evaluation will include a written and an oral exam. The written exam will include:
- a writing proficiency task (essay writing);
- analysis of constructions discussed in the theoretical part of the course
- the linguistic analysis of the portfolio;
- the content of the portfolio (discussion);
- the prepration and discussion of nine popular scientific texts.
- Written exam: 60 % (essay: 40% - theory: 20%)
- Oral exam: 40% (quality of the portfolio and oral skills)

Additional information:
- 20% of the grade: continuous assessment (tests and work during the academic year, e-tandem)
