Learning unit contents
The course focuses on written and oral (sight) translation practice of different types of texts from Dutch into French. By means of numerous exercises and a target-oriented theoretical and/or methodological approach, the course aims to increase the students' lexical and grammatical knowledge in both languages, as well as their translation and sight-translation skills into their mother tongue.
Dutch - General translation to French
The course focuses on written translation practice, applied to different types of texts (expressive, operative, informative), and on the purpose of translation in the target language and culture. Theoretical reflections (Skopos, functionalist approaches) will support the practical exercises (carried out in class and at home) and provide appropriate tools to identify and overcome recurrent translation problems.
Dutch to French sight translation
In-depth study of translation theory and practice in relationship with various sorts of both general and specialized texts.
Numerous translation exercices will be provided in order to extend the student's lexical and grammatical knowledge in Dutch and in French.
