Learning unit contents

There are two objectives:

  • To raise student's awareness of research in the human and social sciences by developing and mastering conceptual and methodological tool.
  • To exercise students in research in the human and social sciences by articulating different tools and concepts around the same research object.
More specifically, it will involve accompanying students in the conduct of scientific research to prepare them for the dissertation.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The students will have to:

  • realise different intermediaries exercices.
  • define a concrete problem to analyze.
  • gradually build a research approach based on the supports and methodological references made available to us.
  • research and test theoretical concepts/references related to the research problem investigated in the seminar.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

METO0820-1 is prerequisite.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Participative seminar built around six modules.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

The teaching is:


  • organized into modules,
  • participatory and active based on the "reverse class" method,
  • face-to-face and distance-learning via eCampus and Unicast Live,
  • based on formative and evaluative group work.

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

If the University of Liège goes into code orange or red :


  • The seminar will be given at distance life the virtual classroom space of eCampus.
  • The evaluation modalities will remain the same. The evaluation of the seminar will be done ocontinuously via peer evaluation exercises and the written and oral presentation of a paper in a group of 3 students and remotely via an individual assignment to be submitted by the 1st day of the exam session in the "évaluation finale - Fiche d'auto-évaluation ".

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Additional information:

There are two assessment methods via eCampus:




  • scientific article (oral and written presentations): 3points on the final mark of the seminar,
  • peer review (intermediaries exercices): 12 points on the final mark of the seminar,
  • self-assessment: 5 points on the final mark of the seminar.
For the second session: same methods of evaluation.

Work placement(s)

Second year internship for 60 days.
