Learning unit contents

This class is about diversity and devotes considerable attention to the problems of prejudice and discrimination toward diverse groups. We will also discuss some solutions to these problems; we will describe research on techniques for improving intergroup relations in different ways. This class goes beyond prejudice and discrimination to emphasize how an understanding of diversity offers unique insights and opportunities to better prepare people for a diverse society.

Usually, the class starts with a presentation of the topic by the teacher with the collaboration of the students. Students then reacted to this presentation, based on the chapter(s) they have read individualy.
The specific teaching method could change depending on the number of students and on the health situation.

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

En fonction de la situation sanitaire au moment de l'examen, celui-ci aura lieu soit en présentiel, soit à distance. Dans les deux cas, les modalités d'examen seront les mêmes.

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Additional information:

Exam in january / august : +- 10 Q with very short answer about all the chapters as well as discussion. The specific assessment method could change depending on the number of students and on the health situation.

Organizational remarks

In order for the students to prepare the material, the class will be organized every two weeks. The calendar will be given during the first class.
This year, the classes will be under the form of distance learning, with individual preparation.
In order to communicate with the students, it is necessary to get enrolled as soon as possible at the university. 
Blackboad collaborate (on eCampus) will be used. This will enable to watch the class live (streaming), to watch it later (podcast), and to ask questions in live. First class on sept, 22.
