Learning unit contents
Urologic pathologies are highly prevalent and represent more than 10% of all reasons for consulting a general practicioner. They can occur at any age (e.g. urinary stones) or can sometimes be detected during the fetal period (congenital diseases). Urologic tumors are very frequent: 35% of all malignancies in man affect the urogenital area.
Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) may also reveal benign conditions: 30% of all men will suffer from LUTS due to the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia and as many as 10% of all adult women suffer from urinary incontinence.
The 2 additional courses on pediatric urology (given by a pediatrician) are complementary to those given for adult urologic pathologies. The focus will be on major malformations: vesico-ureteral reflux, upper tract urinary infections, abdominal tumors and stones.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The main learning objectives are to acquire reasoning and knowledge about urological pathology. The main directive line is to understand the physiopathology of urologic conditions.
