Learning unit contents

Problem based learning: a clinical history is analysed using knowledge from previous or simultaneous courses, as well as new knowledge which will be acquired during the problem based learning process, from the structure and function of the involved structures, via their malfunction and the neurological disorder, leading to its physical therapy, the principles of which are based on the understanding of the analysed case.
Please note that this course is not there to acquire knowledge, but to apply it (the "credit" in the curriculum therefore applies to that process, and not the acquisition of the necessary knowledge, expected from the pre- and co-required courses.)

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The goal of this teaching unit is to stimulate cognitive processes that go beyond the simple restitution of learned knowledge: application of that knowledge and analysis of a clinical situation leading to a concrete treatment plan.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Pre/corequisite: All courses concerning the normal nervous system and its pathology and physiotherapy. See course programme for the individual courses.

Teaching method
Problem based learning in groups with guidance by teachers.

Depending on the sanitary conditions (COVID-19 pandemic), partially or completely online in virtual classrooms.

Tout étudiant qui serait dans l'impossibilité de présenter l'examen en présentiel, pour cause de quarantaine dûment attestée par un certificat, devra représenter celui sous forme orale ou écrite. Cet examen sera planifié dès que possible durant la session en fonction de la disponibilité du/des enseignant(s).

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Additional information:

Written exam.
Depending on the sanitary conditions (COVID-19 pandemic), the exam will be organised on site (physical presence: codes green and yellow, possibly orange) or online (virtual: code red, possibly orange).
Integrative questions based on a clinical description : questions can be open or multiple choice. Answering these requires the application of knowledge (that knowledge which has to be obtained through the pre- and co-required courses!!) about the normal and abnormal function of the nervous system, its disorders and diseases, as well as their treatment, particularly physical therapy.
