Learning unit contents

Introduction to spanish-american short fiction.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The latin-american short story. The student should be able to situate the short story as a genre in latin-american literature. He can explain f.e. the following literary concepts: the theory of literature by Borges, the fantastic, magical realism, etc. He will also be capable to situate some important latin-american writers such as Borges, Fuentes, Cortázar, Vargas Llosa, García Márquez and Monterroso.

course: SPANISH I or level B1

Ex cathedra with active participation by the students.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face to face. Fiste semester. The student must make his preparation weekly.
Some help will be offered so as make the students capable of writing a paper in spanish.

Antology with short stories and literary criticism will be available at the Copy Shop Flash Copy from the 16 Septembre 2019.

- Mario Vargas Llosa, Los cachorros, Cátedra.     Students will have the opportunity to buy the books at the beginning of the year.

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Written and oral exam in January. Personal paper (30% of the global result).
