Introduction to Old and Middle French; translation and explication of literary texts useful to historians or art historians as sources.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Students will acquire a solid base in Old and Middle French which will allow them to understand and analyse sources in the original language.

Students will be required to actively participate in the lecture, by reading and translating the core course texts.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Distant teaching : lectures and videoconferences sur Lifesize. It will be possible, however, to organise seminars in class during the year (depending on the COVID-19 situation).

Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
Oral exam: reading, translation and commentary of one of the excerpts read during the course. General questions about the core course contents.
The mark of the midterm exam in January will count for 10% of the June final grade if > or = 10/20 (the mark will have no effect on the final grade if it doesn't reach 10/20). Please note that the final exam for this course is cumulative.

Organizational remarks
Students in Bac 2HAA can choose to take this course instead of either Traduction et explication de textes historiques : anglais I or Traduction et explication de textes historiques : allemand I. However, students must demonstrate beforehand their proficiency in English or German; a test is given in October for this purpose.
