Learning unit contents
This course will explore literary depictions of slavery in African American and Jamaican novels. This will involve analysing the texts' genres, namely: neoslave narrative, realism, biofiction, and speculative fiction (fantasy, gothic, magical realism, science fiction).
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The students will comprehend the history and development of the slave narrative. Through an appraisal of relevant theories, students will develop the necessary skills to critically analyse the texts on this course.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
A very good knowledge of English.
