Learning unit contents
This learning, theorical and practical, is turned towards the study of Greek syntax and accentuation. A first initiation in the translation from French into Greek is proposed. The Greek morphology and vocabulary are studied more closely. Initiation in Greek metrics.
The course is divided into two parts :
30 h first semester (Bruno Rochette) : study of Greek accentuation and revision of Greek morphology.
60 h during all the year (Koen Vanhaegendoren) : Greek grammar, translations from Greek into French and from French into Greek.
Two private readings : 1 prose text (sem. 1 - Bruno Rochette) ; 1 poetry text (sem. 2 - Koen Vanhaegendoren). Private reading in the second semester will be Euripides' Cyclops, v. 409-709 (with metrical reading of iambs and anapests).
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The goal of the learning is the command of Greek morphology, syntax, accentuation and vocabulary.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
The knowledge acquired during Bloc 1 (Greek language I).
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Translation from Greek into French and from French into Greek. Tests during the year about the vocabulary, accentuation, morphology and syntax of ancient Greek. The participation is obligatory.

Face-to-face.
Organisational adjustments related to the current health context
Depending on the health situation, teaching and assessment could be done at distance.

We will use the Paris edition by Louis Méridier for the private reading from Euripides (Cyclops, v. 409-709). It is available on eCampus.
Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Additional information:
Tests during the year, written and oral examination at the end of the academic year, with private reading.
January (Bruno Rochette): written exam of accentuation and morphology (70 %) and oral exam on the first private reading (30 %).
June (Koen Vanhaegendoren): prose composition (40 %), translation from Greek into French (40 %) and oral exam on the second private reading (20 %).
The mark of the midterm exam in January will count for 30% of the June final mark if > or = 10/20. The mark will have no effect on the final grade if it doesn't reach 10/20 and the final exam will then be cumulative.
Each of the different parts of the course has to be taken. If not, the student will obtain a zero of presence.
