Learning unit contents
Revision of basic Dutch grammar and vocabulary. Listening comprehension will be stressed more than oral expression. The oral aspect will be developed as well, but to a lesser extent; yet, the student will be encouraged to pronounce Dutch sounds correctly.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The student will be expected to master the basic linguistic grammatical and lexical tools in order to be able to use them actively when he/she expresses himself/herself in Dutch, and particularly in the written language.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
This course is intended for (false) beginners. Motivation will play an essential role, particularly for those without any knowledge of Dutch.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Theoretical notions of Dutch pronunciation and constant attempts to raise student's awareness of the correct pronunciation of Dutch and of the observance of Dutch grammar rules.
Grammar, vocabulary, translation, listening comprehension and oral expression exercises.
4 credits = 120 hours of work (about 20 face-to-face)

Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
Any session :
- In-person
written exam ( open-ended questions ) AND oral exam
- Remote
written exam ( multiple-choice questionnaire, open-ended questions ) AND oral exam AND written work
- If evaluation in "hybrid"
preferred remote

Organizational remarks
Native Dutch speakers are invited to get in contact with the teacher as soon as possible (adapted programme).
Students who should be absent at the placement test will join the beginners until they can take the test.
