Oral and written activities based on audio/video files and articles dealing with educational matters. Students will be required to participate actively in the course, which implies that they must have read the texts before coming to class.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Improving the four language skills, mainly passive language skills such as reading and listening but there will also be some speaking and writing exercises.
Enhancing students' ability to cope with English texts (understanding, summarizing, reacting to the content).
Allowing students to speak about various topics related to educational sciences through oral presentations and discussions based on the texts of the coursebook.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
The level of this course corresponds to the European levels B1-B2. Students will thus need to have a good basic knowledge of English and a thorough knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar studied in the first-year course.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Weekly 3-hour class (every other week) in a group of 40 students from September to May. (A combination of face-to-face and online teaching depending on the evolution of the health crisis).
Thorough preparation is required so as to enable students to progress throughout the year.
Organisational adjustments related to the current health context
If the sanitary situation deteriorates and depending on the resulting restrictions, the course workshops will be replaced by online sessions (on Lifesize or another platform). Exercises and keys will also be posted on eCampus. The compulsory tasks and the exams (written+ oral exams) will be done on eCampus if the sanitary situation does not allow for face-to-face evaluation. The students will be informed in due time of any changes in the way the course is taught and assessed (on eCampus and by email)
Recommended or required readings
The modules and documents are available on e-campus.
