Learning unit contents

The aim of this course is to improve the knowledge and the know-how acquired by the student, on a linguistic level (structures, specific vocabulary) and in the understanding of German (business-) culture.

Taught in German - and in French for grammar explanations

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

In connection with the KLOs, this course aims to help the students: - to communicate in a precise and fluent way in German, orally and in writing; - to adapt their language and their register to the situation, being aware of its multicultural components; - to be autonomous; - to be curious and rigorous; - to take the social, economic, political and environmental reality of German speaking countries into account.   At the end of the class: European level C1+

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Having passed the exams in "Interkulturelles Seminar" (GEST3147-1) and "Deutsch 2 für den zweisprachigen Bachelor" (LANG2969-1).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Discovering different aspects of business life in Germany (vocabulary, cultural and economical aspects).
Reading, oral presentations, written exercises.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

70 h lectures in the class-room and homework.

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Any session :

- In-person

written exam ( open-ended questions ) AND oral exam

- Remote

oral exam AND written work

- If evaluation in "hybrid"

preferred in-person


Additional information:

Written exam (50%):


  • realization of a PowerPoint presentation about a German company (1st semester)
  • essay based on written documents in German and French (January)
  • writing a CV and a cover letter (2nd semester)
Oral exam (50%):


  • presentation of a book about Germany's history (chosen by the teacher) (January)
  • presentation of the German company to the class (2nd semester)
Students have to take all the different parts of the examination, otherwise the final mark will be 0/20

Assessment methods may be adapted according to the evolution of the sanitary crisis.
!!! DISTANCE EXAM IN JANUARY:
- essay to be done at home in a given time and to be sent by e-mail as a scan or photo
- presentation of the book on "Collaborate" (Lol@)
