Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

This introductory course, given ex cathedra on the basis of a slide show, is guided by three imperatives which determine the method according to which the works are analyzed:
1. To provide the historical, stylistic data and any lighting (philosophical, sociological, political, economic, scientific, literary ...) useful to the understanding of the forms of plastic expressions (architecture, painting, sculpture, as well as, as far as possible, graphic arts and so-called "applied" arts) which succeeded one another and / or opposed in the 19th century.
2. Contextualize, that is, to connect the history of creation with cultural, political, economic and social history.
3. Familiarize students with theoretical concepts and interpretive tools that allow the analysis of works.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Artistic initiation of the first degree.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Nothing.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

If the health situation calls for distance learning, this course will be given as follows: deposit, each week at the time of the course, of a powerpoint accompanied by a recording of my voice. I will also organize one or two videoconference sessions in order to answer student's questions and give them information, in particular on the evaluation methods.

Recommended or required readings

No syllabus. Notetaking by the student + Powerpoint provided by the teacher.

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Any session :

- In-person

written exam ( open-ended questions )

- Remote

written exam ( multiple-choice questionnaire )

- If evaluation in "hybrid"

preferred in-person

Additional information:

The examination will be in the form of a written exam. At this time (April 22, 2021), the written examination is the preferred format. It will be a questionnaire with closed and open questions.
If the distance learning format is used by the end of May, the evaluation will be done through an online QCM (e-campus).
