Learning unit contents
To make students aware of the international dimension of management. To show them how the company manages its executive staff in an international context and organize the teams. To show them how to prepare themselves to the role of international executives.
1. The problem of managing international executives. Why introduce a mobility of executives in an international company ? How to organize that mobility ? The expatriation issue (accommodation, acclimation, family life,...). The life of the international executive. Relations with the head office. Managing expatriations from different points of view: salary, social legislation & taxes.
2. The intercultural dimension of international management: how can the executive define another culture ? How to adapt ? How to behave in terms of business negotiation, relations with the local staff, & leadership ? How to resolve conflicts?
3. Executive management, a tool for Human Resources Management in an international context. Recruitment issue (which profile of international executive should be recruited and how ?). Training issue, to ensure the corporate identity of the company at the international level. International Communication issue ("Think globally, act locally").

Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- To know and to understand the problem of managing international executives, the intercultural dimension of international management:, the rule of executive management for Human Resources Management in an international context, the dynamic of teams, their rules for HR
- To know the politics ans strategy to adopt in the analysis of the organizations
- Analyse different situations of international mobility, the advantages and desadvantages, the solutions to adopt
- Apply principles of intercultural communication, négociation, international team management
- Auto-analysis of professionnel project at the international level, to evaluate threat and weakness
- Research of one scientific article, analysis, links with the course and analysis of the situation
- Writing presentation (if possible)
ILO-2 : Gaining the knowledge and understanding of one of the proposed fields of concentration or to gain deep knowledge in the field of the management being already specialized thru a first University Master Degree.
ILO-4 : To acquire the capacity to research autonomously and methodically the information needed to solve a complex, transversal management problem.
