Learning unit contents

The course articulates all around three main axes:
1. Principles and steps of the transport planning process, including (i) an overview of transport modeling techniques, (ii) discussion of travel demand modeling techniques.
2. Tools for aiding the decision making process (with a focus on multi-criteria techniques).
3. Selected topics on urban transport and mobility.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The course deals essentially with the planning of the mobility at the scale of a local authority.
Students will learn the best practices in transport planning, get insight into the umbrella of different policy options, and practical know-howabout decision-making tools.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Elementary scientific notions: statistics, calculation

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Mixed theory and exercises classes. In the course, first different theoretical concepts are explained, and afterwards illustrated by different exercises made by the students in class. Besides, the participation of a 2-day transport planning game is mandatory.
 

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

The course takes place in second term, on Wednesday afternoon .
Furthermore, full days will be organized for the organisation of a transportation planning game, for which the presence is mandatory.

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Additional information:

The evaluation is based on an oral examination.
Please note that presence at the transport planning game is mandatory. Absence will automatically result in an A (absence) for the course.
Remark: if due to the COVID19 measures an oral examination is not possible, the course will be evaluated based on an individual assignment.
