Learning unit contents

1. Introduction (definition, history)
2. Framework of a management plan
3. Delimitation of parcels
4. Even aged forest management
5. Irregular forest management
6. Simple management plan

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

This course introduces the basic concepts of forest management in temperate areas. It emphasizes on the multifunctionality of the forest
At the end of this course the student is able to:

- demonstrate his mastership of these basic concepts

- implement the techniques and dataset involved in the implementation of a management plan for major forest types (regular vs. irregular, public vs. private)

- establish the necessary links with other disciplines interacting with forest management (forestry, ecology, economics, use of wood)

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

Theoretical seminars will be available in video supports.
The practical sessions will be adapted for a possible remote realization.
The evaluation will only be done on the basis of a personal or group report depending on the health situation and the number of students enrolled in the course.

The lectures notes and the dataset used in the exercises will be available on the blackboard system

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

- group report (50 %)
- written knowledge test (50 %)
In the second session, the examination consists only of a written knowledge test
