Learning unit contents
The introduction presents the concepts and paradigms of development economics and rural development. Seminars are organized according to some themes choosen together by students and teachers. These themes deal with concrete problems related to rural economics and sociology in developed as well as in developing economics. Seminars are organized in order to encourage active participation of students. Students are invited to prepare each seminar with the appropriate litterature available to them.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The objectives of the seminars are to analyse and to go deeply into issues that are specific to rural economics and sociology and to address these issues with the available quantitative methods. Group projects, presentations from externals with professional or academic experience and field trips contribute to reach these objectives.
After completing the course the student is expected to :
- Grasp the specific problems in the economy of the development
- Argue a position during a statement or a debate
- Criticize and make a scientific summary
- Analyze the external components of an agronomic system and their interactions with a related value chain in developed and developing countries
- Design, dimension and optimize an integrated, sustainable and resilient production system adapted to the contexts
- Analyze the socio-economic and environmental aspects of a technical project and their impact on society and the environment
- Argue and discuss results and recommendations effectively and adapt to the target audience

Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Additional information:
The course is subject to continuous evaluation based on the writing of reports (50%) and a synthesis exercise (50%). Depending on the COVID measures, the synthesis exercise will be done face-to-face or remotely.
The evaluation of the reports leads to a single score for both exam sessions.
