Learning unit contents

The course consists of the analysis of texts written in Dutch - case law decisions and legal arti-cles. Lectures by Dutch guest speakers are organised. The objective is to give law students a less passive knowledge of Dutch.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The knowledge of one foreign language is essential for any law-student.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Students choosing this course must have studied Dutch at secondary school, and if possible also in their first year at the university.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Three conferences by Prof. Bertel De Groote

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Students must prepare the translation of specified texts before each class. They are called upon to translate a sentence in turn. The professor corrects or comments on the suggested translation. Students' interventions are not marked.

An accurate translation into good French: 1. of two or three extracts from a text seen in class; 2. of an extract from a text not read in class but included in the collection of texts.
