Learning unit contents

This course consists of:
- practicing around complex structures of modern Chinese syntax (concepts covered by HSK level III and IV exams);
- Translation work (versions) from a corpus of texts selected by the teacher;
- discussions around the texts translated by the students;
- Grammar texts and exercises (Chinese syntax) will be distributed to students by the teacher and will be made available on ECampus.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

This course aims to:
- Reinforce students' mastery of the complex structures of modern Chinese language syntax;
- Develop students' reading comprehension and translation skills;
- Consolidate students' aptitudes to argue around specific themes

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

To have at least attended 180h of Chinese langue class.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The following activities are organized:
- Exercises around the complex structures of Chinese syntax (home preparation and deposit on the ECampus platform);
- Preparation of readings by students;
- Preparation of HSK exercises by students.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to-face teaching, usage of ECampus platform and preparatory readings at home.

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

In case the sanitary situation did not enable face to face teaching, the following modalities would apply:
Teaching activities:
- Translation work (versions) from a corpus of texts selected by the teacher;
- discussions around the texts translated by the students;
 
Assessment method:
Written and oral exam (face to face). it will consist in grammar and translation exercices and an oral conversation with the student. 
For the May-June 2021 session:
Schedule of the exam: 02/06/2021: 13.00-16.00
Students will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- mastery of the complex structures of modern Chinese syntax;
- ability to understand and translate content of intermediate level of difficulty into modern Chinese.

Recommended or required readings

A body of texts and grammar exercises will be made availabe online. 

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
