Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
This course includes a theoretical part and a design studio.
The theoretical course teaches integration in the design process of urban contextual, programmatic, environmental, social, regulatory and technical constraints. It describes a design and multi-criteria analysis method based on the concepts of contextuality, coexistence and coherence. The theoretical course is illustrated by various examples of urban design and urban renewal projects.
The design studio aims to integrate the theoretical skills developed into the practice of an urban project. The specificity of the project concerns the scale of the urban block, including the layout plan, the composition of the buildings and the design public spaces.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The course objectives are :
- Understanding the multidisciplinary issues of urban projects' planning and design.
- Learning a multi-criteria method for assessing and designing built environments
- Developing skills in project design by the passage of a building integrated in an urban context to the composition of a complex of buildings and public spaces that connect them.
- Developing theoretical knowledge and practical skills in urban composition
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Development of an urban project at the urban block scale.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
The second term on Tuesday from 14h.
Organisational adjustments related to the current health context
Recommended or required readings
The slides accompanying the oral presentation are available in pdf format. These slides are sent to students via eCampus and MyULiège.
Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
Evaluation focuses on the urban project completed, including diagnosis of the site, project objectives chosen, project design and its presentation.
