Learning unit contents
This research methodology course aims to :
- Introduce students to the research process in architecture, as well as to the writing of academic works: TFE and TFE projects.
- Explain how to write a research problem.
- Deliver the methodological tools necessary to build a research process in all its aspects
- Explain the research steps that lead to the writing of the TFE, including the draft TFE: state of the issue, theoretical framework, methodological approaches.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of this course, students will be able to :
Understand the different types of research: project research, applied research, historical research, action research,

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course implements a pedagogy using an "flipped classroom" type system in which students learn by doing, in order to devote more time to enriched, individualized support, while guaranteeing systematic and explicit prior exposure to theoretical knowledge.
- The distance learning sessions will bring the more theoretical elements.
- The face-to-face sessions are designed to provide feedback and will take place in small groups.
- Individual coaching is also planned during the year in order to redirect the student if necessary.
Classes are supported by visual presentations (slides, videos, websites) and written materials. The course requires the reading of texts in preparation for the weekly meeting.
The documents presented and used during the course are available online on ecampus.
The course alternates between lectures, exercises, and critical reading of scientific productions.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
The research methodology course will combine virtual sessions (theoretical input) and face-to-face sessions (feedback, practical exercises, individual coaching).
All communications go through the eCampus platform: messages, instructions, document repository.
