Learning unit contents

The purpose of the various activities comprising this course is to help students develop their professional project.
This is the second course in the 'Professional Development of the Speech & Language Therapist' programme present throughout the bachelor's degree. Unlike the course in the first year of the bachelor's degree, the profession is considered, in the 'Positioning' section, through the competences of the speech & language therapist. Regardless of the area in which the speech & language therapist is working, all speech & language therapists master common competences: prevention, assessment, therapy, professional relationship, expertise. These five competences are dealt with in class through several learning activities.
Competence related to the expertise will be particularly developed within the course in order to equip the students with disposable resources useful to better seize the opportunities for learning during the initial training and for the future professional practice. These disposable resources will target: change management and challenge, workflow, project management and procrastination.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

This course supports students through the various learning activities, helping them to understand the five competences of the speech & language therapist as defined in ULiège's competency framework. The following facets are studied in more detail:
1) the 3 levels of prevention mechanisms in speech therapy; 2) the stages of an assessment procedure and the professional attitudes adopted; 3) the stages of a care procedure and the professional attitudes to be adopted; 4) the functions and usefulness of research for the practice of speech & language therapy and relevant information sources; 5) the mecanisms of change and non-change; 6) project management; 7) the mecanisms of procrastination and the facilitators of the passage from intention to behavior.
