In-depth study of translation theory and practice in relationship with various sorts of both general and specialized texts.
Numerous translation exercices will be provided in order to extend the student's lexical and grammatical knowledge in Dutch and in French.

By the end of the course, students will have further developed their knowledge of and analytic skills in Dutch and French. They will also have further developed their translation skills in the two languages. Since we cover various fields, thecourse also offers an opportunity to enlarge their encyclopedic knowledge and their research methodology, including the field of (specialized) terminology.

A good knowledge of Dutch and an excellent knowledge of French.
The students are warmely adviced to follow the BAC1 and BAC2 introductory classes to Dutch/French translation before taking the class.

Written exam: translation of a general text dealing with a theme explored in class. 60 % of the final mark (the remaining 40% being the sight translation exam)

A text on a topical issue.
Dutch to French sight translation
All the skills relating to sight translation - as trained and developed throughout our teaching sessions - will be assessed.
Assessment methods
Dutch - General translation to French
10 minutes before the exam, students send an email confirming their presence in front of their computer. At that time, they receive the text to be translated (between 400 and 500 words) and send it back 2 hours later. The final grade will take into account the quality of the translation (comprehension, formulation, style, etc.), the knowledge and skills acquired, but also the pedagogical development of each student since the beginning of the term.
