Faced with the unequal distribution of wealth in the world, in particular between the North and South, education for development is a process which aims to initiate changes to values and attitudes on the individual and collective level with a view to creating a more just world in which resources and power are equitably distributed and human dignity is respected.
Today, education for development is another way of looking at co-operation. From this critical perspective, education for development shakes the traditional bases of cooperation by shedding new light upon North-South relations, which are no longer characterised by geographical borders but by relationships of force between the rich and the excluded, and which are no longer based upon the principle of aid, but of partnerships and joint responsibility with a view to social change. This does not consist of setting objectives to fight against extreme poverty, but of strengthening the role of the State and civil society to construct another model of living together on a global level.

- To critically appraise the role and issues around education and lobbying as instruments for social change in North-South relations.
- To identify the different stakeholders involved in EFD.
- To design EFD mechanisms based on a critical analysis of practice.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The seminar is a collective process moving between conceptual frameworks, analysis of experience and practical exercises. Reflection will be enriched by input from resource people involved in the EFD field, using active and participative methods and through the use of a variety of tools. A portfolio of reference documents will be provided to each student.
