Learning unit contents
This course consists in accompanying students in a small ethnographic research in Liège. Students are first asked to write a research project. Then, they have to go into the field to carry out interviews and observations. During class meetings, they present different aspects of their research (interviews, interpretation of data, and so on) with the purpose to listen to comments and suggestions from the group.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The main purpose is to place students in a situation that will help them develop their research skills. At the end of the course, students will be able to define a problematic, to write a research project, to conduct interviews and make observations, and to interpret the data produced in this way.

Adaptation of teaching commitments following the COVID-19 pandemic for the May-June 2020 session
Teaching methods implemented : distance-learning
The requirements for the individual essay expected from the students have been adapted to the constraints imposed by the Covid-19 crisis. The students send a first draft of their essay by email and receive comments on it from the teacher. These comments are made remotely, first by email, and then orally if the student requests it.
Assessment subjects
Students are assessed on the basis of an individual essay, consisting either in the analysis of a biographical interview, or in a review of minimum five articles on social mobility.
Assessment methods
Students are assessed on the basis of an individual written essay submitted at the start of the examination session.
