Learning unit contents
The use of laboratory animals as a way to perform research needs to be supported by a complete program explaining to the students the "how " and the "why".
The aim of this teaching is to prepare the students to think about various techniques they could use on lab. animals, taking into account their specificity and applying then a scientific approach as well as a complete respect of the animal welfare.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
This course addresses a critical need (and also legal) for students in biomedical knowledge about the living and the implementation of experimental techniques in laboratory animals.
Ahead of the legal training of 90 hours every researcher should follow in this context, this course will focus on concepts related to the use of animals in research. The goal is to enable students to apply knowledge rigorously respecting the animal.
It allows except legal reserves from the FPS Public Health, students in SBIM, right out of the Master 1, especially in combination with the ethics course (Bac 3) to work immediately (under the supervision of a Master of Experiment) on laboratory animals as animal Biotechnician.
An additional legal training should be followed to obtain the title of Master of Experience.

The practicals will be given in groups and in common with the parcticals given during the Cat C Felasa formation. Are also possible, some visits of animal facilities.

Assessment methods and criteria
The examination consists of open questions and QCM ones. The list of Q will be distributed along the years but is non exhaustive.

Given the Rector's decision to maintain the organization of the exams for the second remote session (Covid): -each student who will take the exam will be contacted to verify their active Uliège email address -on the day of the exam, at the scheduled time of the exam set by the Faculty of Medicine , each student will receive on the ULiège email address that they have confirmed as active, a few minutes before the beginning of it, by email, a questionnaire appended to this email, in Word format. -This questionnaire will contain open questions and some multiple choice questions. -Each student must 1 / immediately confirm by return email that he has received the email containing the exam file to be completed and 2 / confirm in this return email that he undertakes to respect the trust charter of the University on the conduct of exams. -The student will have to save on their computer, in their name. -It will answer directly on the questionnaire via the computer keyboard. - Two hours maximum after receiving the test, the student will send the completed file to my email address -I will send an acknowledgment of receipt of the completed copy to each student.
