Learning unit contents

The field of neuroimmunology and inflammation-related pathologies of the nervous systen becomes extensively covered in the literature. In a perspective of designing new therapeutic approaches for neurological diseases, understanding these inflammatory aspects is mandatory.
This course will offer a general overview of the mechanisms and pathways that are involved in neuroinflammatory conditions, and will focus on how inflammatory components contribute to physiopathology (or therapy).
Therefore, this course aims to provide Master 2 students with the required knowledge to comfortably approach and discuss any research thematics that could be related to neuroinflammation and neuroimmunology.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of this 15 hour-course, the student will :

  • Understand the basics of neuroinflammation and immunology-related aspects of
  • Understand and discuss a research paper with specific focus on neuroinflammation and neuroimmunology.

Assessment methods and criteria

The student will be evaluated as follows:
25% of the cotation will evaluate the active participation and level of understanding during the discussion of the scientific paper (journal club)
75% of the cotation will evaluate the knowledge about :


  • The topics presented during the lectures
  • Interpretation and analysis of a figure, extracted from a scientific paper
This will be included in open questions, first prepared by the student and then discussed orally with the teachers.
