Learning unit contents

Various themes connected with cognitive and emotional child development will be studied in-depth through clinical cases.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The first objective of the course is to enable students to broaden their understanding of cognitive and emotional development. This takes place through a scientific literature review which is specific to an emotion or cognitive clinical problem frequently encountered in clinical work with children. Reading reference books will also help support learning about new concepts. The second objective of the course is to develop students' clinical reasoning. They will be confronted with case studies from field work. They will have to evaluate and intervene with the theoretical knowledge they have acquired. The third objective of the course aims to develop students' abilities to interact with their peers as part of group work. Teamwork is inherent to the work of a psychologist, and this skill is therefore key to training in psychology.
By referring to the psychology guidebook, students will develop the following skills:

  • Analyse and process information which is useful for a psychological investigation (C5)
  • Present some results in writing (C5)
  • Express information using appropriate and accurate language in relation to the target group (C1)
Demonstrate behaviour and attitudes which are conducive to teamwork (C3)
