This course will only be given in English. Its main purpose is to introduce behavioral neuroscience and in particularly the different neuronal networks underlying behavior.
The course will start with a general introduction on animal behavior (from an evolutionary perspective, i.e. how did animals adapt to their environment, how do they find food etc).
For the rest of the course, we will use several chapters from the textbook "Physiology of Behavior", 11th edition, by Neil R. Carlson: chapter 5 on different methods and strategies of research, chapter 9 on sleep and biological rhythms, and chapters 16 and 17 dedicated to several behavioral and psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, autism, anxiety etc.
In addition there will be a lecture on the role of olfaction and in particular on how pheromones affect behavior and how they are processed by the olfactory bulbs and the brain. There will be a final lecture on disorders of sexual differentiation and in particularly on gender dysphoria.
